Sheridan

Home of the Phil Sheridan Days, there is no real direct connection between the namesake Civil War hero and this small city between McMinnville and Willamina. The city boasts a population of over 6,000, but a large portion of hose have no choice, as the federal prison off Oregon 18 counts in the city’s census count. Interestingly, the city actually lobbied to have the prison built there, the only federal prison in Oregon, plus there was an important Oregon Supreme Court decision related to the census count.

Historically speaking, the city seems to flirt with disaster. There was a major fie in 1913, and with it located along the South Yamhill River, flooding is frequent. It also was once home to St. Francis Xavier's Novitiate on a hill just outside of the city, which after it closed the campus became home to The Delphian School. These days, you can stop in at one of the restaurants along Main and Bridge street, or visit during the annual Mud Drags. Just try to stay out of trouble so you are not forced to become a resident.
