Vernonia

Vernonia is mostly known by outsiders for the U.S. Supreme Court case concerning drug testing of students and the frequent flooding. However, this timber town along Oregon 47 between Buxton and Clatskanie has more to offer, including a golf course and a historic downtown. The still get the flooding, but with the completion of a new K-12 school in 2012, the schools are at least safe from the flood waters of the Nehalem River. The city is also the northern terminus of the Banks-Vernonia State Trail that runs south to Buxton, Manning, and Banks.
